On the cover, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District’s 3.2-megawatt Rancho Seco photovoltaic plant is installed at the site of the decommissioned nuclear power plant of the same name. SMUD began the first part of this installation in 1984 and remains a leader in the renewable energy arena, generating 9 percent of its energy deliveries from renewables in 2004.
